I have never had an open space above my cabinets and always wanted it. When you close your cabinet door you disturb the dust on the fake plants and dust from overhanging plants falls on your countertops and maybe into your food - YUCK. I have the very same situation with big tall spaces above cabinets.
Love the new look--the yellow pear picture is my favorite. A better decorating solution for the top of your kitchen cabinets would be to store large scaled kitchen items there that do not overhang the cabinet doors. Now I have about 3 different groupings of VERY large baskets 1-3 baskets per grouping I would either leave all the space blank or put a few tight groupings of large like.
